A Few Forest Bathing Benefits
Started in Japan in the 1980s, this nature practice has been studied for over 40 years. Remarkable results continue to emerge. Here are a few:
Patients in the urban forest therapy program had significantly alleviated depression symptoms and improved sleep quality. (Int J Environ Res Public Health)
Studies point to positive effects of nature exposure on immunological health parameters; such as anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-asthmatic effects or increased NK (natural killer) cell activity. (NIH)
Structured forest therapy improved psychological nature connection, mood, and life satisfaction in veterans with PTSD. (Journal of Veteran Studies)
Forest therapy is an effective intervention to relieve pain and associated psychological and physiological symptoms in individuals with chronic widespread pain. (PubMed)_
About ANFT
I am in training with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, ANFT for short. This is a six month course that was founded in 2012 by Amos Clifford. ANFT has certified over 3000 guides in over 70 countries. Our training is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, or forest bathing, with modifications for our Western culture.
The training draws on the latest medical research and we take a heart-based, Relational Forest Therapy™ approach on “rebuilding relationships with the More-Than-Human World as a foundation for healing people and planet."Learn more about the research at the ANFT website.
